Main Chodankar' s House
Chodankars are a family, who have lived in this Pourni Teerth or as they like to call it Dev Wadi for generations, since the time gaukaris settled in this area. The mapping of their routines, and claiming of shared spaces of their angan, speaks about the degree of public and private that manifests in their home. Their mornings begin with the daughter in law’s of the family getting ready and offering worship to their respective family deities and the other gods. While the patriarch of the family sits on padwi looking outside, almost guarding the house of onlookers. The house is virtually hidden with the thick vegetation on the road side, that demarcates the boundary of their house, which doesn’t seem to spill outside it. The shared Angan, the Padwi, the Osari and the Chauk collectively define the intricate spatial divisions encapsulating the essence of their 'inner' house. This unique interplay of rituals, guardianship, and spatial consciousness encapsulates the Chodankar family's idea of home.
