Settlement Studies - Ratnagiri, Maharashtra
S2S1
Team - Batch A21

The studio had visited Sadamirya, a village along the coast of the White Sea, Ratnagiri, for settlement study work. Divided into groups which would be looking at five aspects of how life works in the village and the relationship between the work, economic activities and the built form. Broadly, the ‘Physicality of Habitation’. We looked closely at the lives of the villagers, and observing how it shapes the builtform, economics and cultures around them.

The aspect of settlement study studied by my group and me is Construction.

Village Site Sticking.png

An exploded axonometric of one of the houses highlighted the construction materials, the mangalore tile and wooden truss roofing system. This drawing also allows to highlight the life and space making practice of the villagers and give insights into the culture of the community.

The next stage of the stage involved a design project at same village site of Sadamirya. A shrine for the sea god was to be imagined at the banks.
