Forms and Forces
S1C2

The studio began with identifying mechanical objects, with various parts of different forms. The objective/ aim of the studio was to understand how does the form of the object and its components, allow different forces to be carried out and allows the object to function as a whole. It also aimed at breaking down the forms in platonic forms/ surfaces and then understanding what kind of force is applied on it and how its form allows it to resist the force.

The object identified by me was a multi-colour click pen. The pen comprised of 4 colour refills, 4 push-down buttons for each color, outer body in 3 parts and 4 springs for each of the refills.

MECHANISM - The refill end fits into the bottom of the push - down button and then a spring slides through both of them. This is put into the 2nd part of the outer body and then other two body parts are added. Now, when all the parts of the pen are assembled, when one one of the push - down button is pressed, it gets locked at its position, due to its form, and which also compresses the spring. So now, to close the pen, one of the other buttons are pressed, it removes the locked button out of its position. By the pressure of the spring, the button is which is now no longer held at is place, comes backs to its closed position.
